Who could it be?

Thinking about the 2026 Grand Marshal

1. The global screen icon

This is the safest bet. Think of Scottish actors who:

2. The powerhouse musician

Music hasn’t had as many shots at the Grand Marshal role as film and TV, but KT Tunstall and Sir Billy Connolly proved that a musician can absolutely command Sixth Avenue.

Someone for 2026 would fit nicely into the “big voice for Scotland” tradition KT started in 2018.

3. Another barrier-breaker

The committee has shown it likes firsts: first sports star, first woman, first co-Grand Marshals, first double-Grand Marshal. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them lean into:

That would follow the same logic that led to Gail Porter’s appointment, where the narrative around inclusion and resilience was as important as her media profile.

4. The “beloved character actor”

There’s also a strong tradition of picking people who may not be tabloid-megastar famous, but are deeply loved: Kevin McKidd, Graham McTavish, Tommy Flanagan. The committee clearly values people who show up, engage, and genuinely enjoy meeting the community.

That widens the field enormously: character actors from prestige TV, long-serving broadcasters, even fashion or kilt designers could fit this mold, especially if they’ve already built a relationship with Scottish groups in North America.

Whatever happens, the pattern is clear

Whoever ends up with the sash in 2026, they’ll almost certainly:

Until the official announcement drops, guessing is half the fun.
