Co-presented by NYC Tartan Week and The Washington Tattoo, this three-day special event is designed to bring the spirit of Tartan Day to life six months early, with an exclusive whisky tasting experience, immersive piping and drumming workshops, plus a rip-roaring pipe & drum competition that you won’t want to miss!

1. Whisky Tasting Night

Kick off the weekend with an exclusive whisky tasting featuring world-class single malts. Hosted by Jared Card of ImpEx Beverages, sample carefully selected exquisite whiskies from renowned distilleries. Whether you’re a whisky aficionado or just beginning to explore the world of single malts, this event promises to be both educational and enjoyable.

2. Piping for Pints Competition

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2024
Time: 6 PM – 11 PM

Get ready for an exhilarating evening of music and fun at “Piping for Pints,” an event that promises to be a highlight of the Halfway to Tartan Day weekend! This unique competition will showcase the talents of some of the best pipers and drummers, with exciting prizes as the audience helps to choose the winner.

Adjudicators: Craig Munro, Adrian Mordaunt

Competition Rules:

Freestyle Competition: Each competitor will have 5-7 minutes to perform their best freestyle set. From Piobaireachd to MSR, anything goes, so bring your creativity and have fun! Performances will be judged on uniqueness, entertainment, and style.

Audience Participation: In addition to the accredited judges, the audience will also have a say in determining the winners, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

Grand Prizes:

Piping: Custom set of bagpipes designed by Craig Munro of Wallace Bagpipes
Drumming: Custom snare drum designed by XX

3. Piping & Drumming Workshops

Learn from the best with our Piping & Drumming Workshops! Covering fundamental techniques, these workshops are designed for musicians of all skill levels who want to hone their craft and learn from some of the best in the field. Enjoy a special recital by the instructors after the workshops.

Workshops:

Bagpipe Fundamentals with Craig Munroe: Learn the essential techniques and skills needed to master the bagpipes. This workshop is perfect for beginners and those looking to strengthen their basic piping fundamentals.

Drumming Fundamentals with Adrian Mordaunt : Delve into the basics of drumming, focusing on foundational skills that will set you up for success. Suitable for new drummers and those wishing to strengthen their core techniques.

Special Recital: Following the workshops, enjoy a recital by the workshop teachers, showcasing their expertise and providing inspiration for your own musical journey.
