NYC Tartan Day Parade

For over 25 years, NYC Tartan Week has been celebrating Scottish-American heritage by providing meaningful connections through the celebration of Scottish heritage in NYC.

Join us for the 27th annual NYC Tartan Day Parade on Saturday, April 5, 2025 as we march up Sixth Avenue in NYC's biggest annual display of Scottish culture.

It's FREE to sign up but hurry, registration closes March 17!

The National Tartan Day New York Committee was formed in 2002 and obtained official nonprofit 501(c)(3) status in 2003 to organize the NYC Tartan Day Parade and all the associated activities that make up NYC Tartan Week. In following its mission to celebrate and spread awareness of the contributions made by Scottish Americans to the United States, the committee continually partners with organizations throughout New York City, the United States, and Scotland to present opportunities for those who have or identify with Scottish heritage to connect through more than a dozen Scottish-themed events each year during NYC Tartan Week. The committee is committed to providing meaningful exchanges and inspiring experiences in order to showcase the rich Scottish heritage that continues to thrive in America. The committee is comprised of representatives from The Saint Andrew’s Society of the State of New York, The New York Caledonian Club, The American-Scottish Foundation, and Clan Campbell.

Come join the inaugural NYC Highland Dance competition, which will give dancers a chance to showcase their art at its highest form and the public a chance to witness this cornerstone of Highland dance culture.

With the increased visibility of Scottish culture during NYC Tartan Week, the inaugural NYC Highland Dance competition will give dancers a chance to showcase their art at its highest form and the public a chance to witness this cornerstone of Highland dance culture.

Competition details:

● Date: Sunday, April 6th, 2025

● Time: Doors open: 8:00am / Dancing commences: 9:00am

● Location: Battery Park City School, 55 Battery Place, Manhattan, NY 10280

What is a Highland dance competition?

● Competition is the lifeblood of Highland dance in the United States, as it keeps dancers motivated and provides goals and rewards for learning and perfecting dances.

● At a competition, dancers compete in classes based on age and previous competition success. Medals are awarded for the top 6 places and the overall winners in each class receive a trophy.

● Judges evaluate the dancers on timing, technique, and general deportment.

Who will be competing?

● The competition is open to dancers internationally. With each Tartan Week welcoming more and more Highland dancers to the city, the competition provides dancers from around the globe with a chance to compete against new dancers.

● Younger local dancers will have a chance to attend a dance competition for the first time!

Who is hosting the competition?

● The NYC School of Highland Dance, with support from: ○ Fling Together, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of performance-based Highland dance across North America.

○ Shot of Scotch NYC, a group of premier Highland dancers dedicated to sharing their love of Highland dance in and around NYC.
