SPOILER ALERT! Enough time has passed. We have to talk about the bagpipes in Dune!

If you saw the film, were there tears of pride running down your face as a bagpiper emerged from the Atreides ship in the year 10191? Or did you think the pipes were completely out of place? WE HAVE TO KNOW! Leave your opinion in the comments.

Here’s how director of Dune, Denis Villeneuve, described the soundtrack for “The National”:

“I’d always seen Atreides as a kind of Celtic people. So I realised they couldn’t just disembark their ship. They had to be – how you say? Piped out.”

“The pandemic had just started, but lo and behold, within seconds, in Edinburgh, I managed to find 30 bagpipe players, who were more than happy to go into a big church and stand at the right distance from each other and make a fabulous noise.”

It’s with great sadness that we learn of the recent passing of Bob Campbell. Bob was a long time volunteer and supporter of NYCTW, and our hearts go out to his daughter, Lebby (@lebbycampbell), and her family at this time.

Bob has been recognized for a lifetime’s devotion to supporting students, universities, entrepreneurs, innovators, and non-profits in Scotland and the US.
